New Line Wins Bid for ‘Conan’
New Line CinemaNew Line Entertainment has become the leader in the bid to rejuvenate “Conan the Barbarian.” After Warner Bros. lost the rights to the property, New Line quickly stepped in to present a bid for the dormant franchise that vaulted Arnold Schwarzenegger into stardom. The franchise is based on the Robert E. Howard pulp novels and with the recent success of testosterone driven warrior epic “300,” New Line looks to whet the appetite of viewers with a rejuvenation of “Conan.”

If New Line secures the 18-month, $1 million option, they will have to start their development from scratch since all material from the previous development attempts still belong to Warner Bros. Warner Bros. had the rights to making the movie, yet lost the rights when it failed to place the film into production by the spring deadline established in the option due to an unsatisfactory script. After losing the rights to Conan, Warner Bros. quickly recovered to make a deal to make a live-action movie based off of “He-man and the Masters of the Universe” cartoons.
