Paramount Unveils ‘Cloverfield’ |
 Paramount has already managed to create frenzied enthusiasm for their top-secret disaster film “Cloverfield,” a J.J Abrams project set to be released next January.
The film was introduced to audiences as a teaser trailer playing before Paramount’s “Transformers.” The teaser featured very brief clips of the film and omitted a title; only revealing the Producer (J.J Abrams) and the release date (1-18-08). After a maelstrom of illegal trailer postings on YouTube, Paramount relented and revealed a few extra facts regarding their project and unveiled the temporary title of “Cloverfield,” assuring that this would not be the name of the released product. The film was surreptitiously greenlit by the studio in February with a projected budget of only $30 million. “Cloverfield” revolves around a monster attack in New York City as seen through the lens of a video camera helmed by a party host and his small group of attendees. It is written by Drew Goddard, who did work on “Lost” and “Alias” with Abrams. The project is directed by Matt Reeves, another cohort of Abrams from working with him to co-create “Felicity.”
