Here you are! Welcome to the birth of Sci Fi Studios Magazine, Issue Number 1 -- in years to come you can say, "I was there!"

I can't help but think we are doing a little pioneering here. Other online magazines may offer original columns and features, but at SFS Magazine we do that and more: aside from features, interviews and columns, we also get to shine light on the exciting new opportunity for fans that IS Sci Fi Studios.

Welcome to the premiere issue of Sci Fi Studios Magazine!

When I sat down to write this column, I had the idea in mind that I would rattle off a bunch of basic facts about Sci Fi Studios (SFS) -- things that you and I both know already, only compressed into 1,200 words. But then the thought of our new readers digesting a column as dry and moldy as a month-old piece of toast didn't fill me with very much enthusiasm. So I thought, what would the fans want to read? What kind of updates would fans really want to hear? A dry, rhetorical "company line" article, as exciting as a wet week in Wagga -- which, for those unfamiliar with Australian metaphors, would be as much fun as watching grandma's underwear drying in the sun -- or something with some real insights into what was happening behind the scenes at SFS? With this column I hope that, over the coming issues, I can take you backstage and give you the inside scoop about the real SFS who, what and why. It will be anything but boring, I promise!

SFS Insiderlarge1So, it may appear quiet at Sci Fi Studios at the moment but, like a volcano, the action is actually building up from deep within. We observers feel the occasional tremor, but as far as we know the volcano is perfectly fine -- when in fact it is getting prepared to spew a billion tons of molten rock in a pyroclastic surge 10 times greater then that of Mount Vesuvius! Well, OK: SFS isn't getting ready to bury people, but the creative juices are certainly building up inside, the wheels of progress are turning and Sci Fi Studios is indeed preparing to burst out of its shell - -not as a massive killing volcano, but as a beautiful butterfly.

So you are probably thinking, "Sheesh! Enough with the metaphors already -- just tell us what is going on!" Okay, okay ...but aren't metaphors fun?

First off, the word from the company president, Tim Brazeal, is that SFS has just signed up a new group of prestigious actors and talent.

Connor Trinneer (star of Star Trek: Enterprise and regular guest star on Stargate Atlantis) is one of these actors! Tim managed to get hold of Connor at FedCon XV, Europe's greatest Star Trek and sci-fi convention, in May this year. Tim explained the concept of Sci Fi Studios to him, and I am told that Connor was gob smacked! When asked if he was interested in joining, he replied, "Hell, yes!" Connor Trinneer is well known as being "fan friendly," and the concept of SFS fascinated him.  He loved how we were thinking outside the box and was impressed by the professional talent we already had on board. Sci Fi Studios Magazine will be interviewing Connor in a future issue, so watch this space!

Chase Masterson, who played Leeta on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has also jumped onboard the SFS bandwagon. She loved the concept from the moment she was told about it and said that she would gladly promote SFS at any opportunity. Chase has been true to her word already: At Comic Con International in San Diego this year, she introduced Tim Brazeal to representatives of the Sci-Fi Channel and other media representatives; she even suggested that they all should work together! Good on ya Chase, you're a true sport!

Richard Grieco and Menina Fortunato are two more names to add to the list. Menina is an up-and-coming star who is best known to the sci-fi world as Maras, an Orion slave girl in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode "Bound." When she was told about SFS, her reaction was "Count me in 100%!" Richard Grieco is best known for his role as Officer Dennis Booker in the hit series, 21 Jump Street, and his acting career spans over 40 movies, TV series and guest star appearances. When told about the concept, Richard said that he had always wanted to do something like this with the fans and really wanted to get involved. He believes that if we play our cards right, Sci Fi Studios will be a huge success.

This is all I can reveal for Issue 1 regarding new celebrity supporters; you will have to watch this space to find out who else is waiting in the wings to join Sci Fi Studios.  I think you'll all be pleasantly surprised.

Moving onto other news, the SFS website is currently undergoing a major revamp. The new and improved site will have a greater emphasis on the fans and will involve them to a much greater extent than the current site. How so?, I hear you ask. Well, one way will be through member spotlights on the main site, where member talents in writing, acting, directing and other skills will be credited. This will give them a chance to really showcase their skills and share their talent with the world and be recognized while doing it. Communication and customization to make interaction between the members, the professionals and Sci Fi Studios more efficient will also be a focus of the new site design.

The biggest obstacle Sci Fi Studios has faced, during these first months of its existence, is explaining to visitors exactly what the studio is all about. It has been commented time and time again that guests do not fully understand what Sci Fi Studios is trying to actually do. You can be assured that the company has a solid business plan and knows what it is doing, but with an idea as revolutionary as this one, it has proven difficult explaining it to newcomers. Not only will the new web design showcase member talents, it will also explain in greater detail what is happening both now and into future, which will be achieved through text and video.

Studiolightslarge1There are also plans in the works for SFS to begin its very own sci-fi and fantasy talk show! A studio is currently being put together and hosts arranged, and while it is in the very early stages at the moment, it is certainly something to look forward to in the future. Sci Fi Studios Magazine will be keeping a very close watch on this and we will let you know how it develops.

To round off the updates I have for you this issue, 12 more camera interviews with actors and other talent are just about ready to come online. One of them will feature Tim Russ, who starred in Star Trek: Voyager and recently directed the ground-breaking fan film, Star Trek: Of Gods and Men -- so keep your eyes peeled!

Well, that is all the news for now, but trust me when I say it isn't all that is going on --  there are many more exciting things happening behind the scenes at Sci Fi Studios, and just like that volcano, it is getting ready to explode! The Sci Fi Studios Magazine team and I will keep you updated and give you the inside scoop each and every month!

We hope you enjoy the magazine. If you would like to comment on this, or any of our other stories, please contact us at  This email address is being protected from spam bots, you need Javascript enabled to view it --  we would love to hear from you!
