Here you are! Welcome to the birth of Sci Fi Studios Magazine, Issue Number 1 -- in years to come you can say, "I was there!"

I can't help but think we are doing a little pioneering here. Other online magazines may offer original columns and features, but at SFS Magazine we do that and more: aside from features, interviews and columns, we also get to shine light on the exciting new opportunity for fans that IS Sci Fi Studios.

Here you are! Welcome to the birth of Sci Fi Studios Magazine, Issue Number 1 -- in years to come you can say, "I was there!"

I can't help but think we are doing a little pioneering here. Other online magazines may offer original columns and features, but at SFS Magazine we do that and more: aside from features, interviews and columns, we also get to shine light on the exciting new opportunity for fans that IS Sci Fi Studios.

larry_nemecek Of course, Sci Fi Studios is all about opportunity -- the chance for fans to have direct access and input with film-makers, writers and artists ... or even to stretch their own creative muscles with feedback and plant the seeds of their own career. This magazine represents that same opportunity for writers and artists and the names you see listed as authors are almost all gathered from the growing member rolls of Sci Fi Studios. Take a look at the line-up for our debut issue and see what I mean. Rachel Pierce offers features on that soundtrack impact in The Music of Science Fiction and on today’s Youth and Sci-Fi, while Chris McQuillan gives a look back at Earth Final Conflict and an update on the up-and-down Stargate universe, with Atlantis’ renewal amid the axing of the original SG-1.

In his first article for us, Sheldon A. Wiebe argues that The Golden Age of TV is Now! and is amongst among our first crop of reviewers, looking at NBC's new Heroes. Jaydin eyes the returning Lost and the promising new Jericho, and Ralph Rivas takes a close look at WilliamShatner.com, the website. And oh yeah, some editor takes you down memory lane for another -- and hopefully different -- view of Star Trek's 40th birthday as just the latest entry in the "family" album.

Having reviewed the Shatner website this issue, Ralph Rivas tells of his process in putting together this and future 'resource reviews' in The Brain Pill. This is in addition to his ongoing look at the sci-fi news websites and other sources that keep the top fans up to date on their news in News Quest at Sci Fi Studios.

For those who like a slice of science on the side of their sci-fi, check out the retroviruses among us in A Little Inner Reflection by Dr. Jeff Mahr, and Beware of Strange Physicians Wearing Ties by Dr. Robert Pyatt -- and no, it's no joke! These two authors and Charles Ivie, whose Science Behind Science Fiction premieres here, will be regular contributors.

Most of all, don't miss our peek at the in-house working of Sci Fi Studios, the most unique corner of the magazine. Supervising editor Lodie Webster contributes the overall Sci Fi Studio's Insider column, which helps explain all the nooks and crannies of this amazing site bound to come in handy as we grow. Scott Brody and Wendy Gamble also kick off their regular Creative Corner with a look at how members are taking Sci Fi Studios up on its offer of involvement to encourage fan creativity by turning the spotlight on each other (!!) as authors of Sci Fi Studio's Who Am I? and MedLab stories.

Just as with the Sci Fi Studios site, we're developing a real stable of editors and writers -- and other contributors -- here at SFS Magazine. You can read about all of them and their passions in their bio's which can be accessed from the Authors section of the magazine. Along with Lodie, I'd like you to give a nice round of virtual applause to Supervising Editor Alan Anderton and Co-Editor Avrila Klaus. They -- all the writers and many more -- will be here for many more issues to come ... so stick around and watch us grow! Or better yet, dive in! We have a "pool" of writers forming right now -- you can find out about it all in our Magazine Forum.

It's been exciting to be a part of this debut issue and the whole concept of "fan-powered sci-fi" ... But there's a lot more to come! Let me be the first to invite you to come back each issue and see where it takes us -- "Out there... thataway!"
